UCSB Rape Prevention Education Program (RPEP)

RPEP provides prevention education and response services for all forms of sexual violence - rape and other forms of sexual assault, abusive relationships and stalking. Services include crisis counseling, help with decisions on reporting to law enforcement, answers to questions about medical and legal procedures, help with academic and housing problems, and referrals to long-term counseling, support groups, and other resources. Incidents may be recent or in the past. Services are free and confidential and available to women and men, including lesbians and gay men, and those who identify as transgendered. RPEP offers education through the peer education program Students Stopping Rape, and through trainings, lectures and programs conducted by professional staff. We talk about facts, laws, and statistics. We challenge the myths in our culture that blame the victim. We explain the patterns observed in abusive relationships and how to help friends caught in those patterns. We give students suggestions for reducing their risks and suggestions for changing the culture that allows sexual violence to happen. Self-defense workshops are also available. For more information, check out Web site or come in and talk with us. RPEP is located in the Women's Center, SRB first floor, 893-3778.
