University-Owned Residence Halls

All university-owned residence halls are co-educational and offer easy access to dining commons, laundry facilities, and study areas. Contracts cover the full academic year and include meal costs as well as the cost of accommodations. Off-campus student residents may purchase a meal plan and eat in the dining commons. University-Affiliated Residence Halls

Two privately owned residence halls in Isla Vista provide UCSB students with room and board accommodations comparable to those on campus. Both are conveniently located close to campus making it easy for students to walk or ride their bike to classes. Contact the privately owned residence halls directly for application information.

University-Owned Single-Student Apartments

UCSB owns and manages three complexes for undergraduate students: Santa Ynez; El Dorado; and Westgate. Santa Ynez has 200 two bedroom units. Undergraduate students live in groups of 4 per apartment. El Dorado has one and two bedroom units, while Westgate has studios and one bedroom units. All three complexes house continuing sophomores, juniors and seniors. San Clemente Villages is a new complex for graduate students. Each student will be housed in individual bedrooms and can choose between two and four bedroom units. University-Owned Family Student Housing

Full time enrolled students and their families are eligible to live in family-student housing. Extended and non-traditional families are welcome, and families with children have priority. Families with children can expect to wait up to six months. Families without children can expect to wait twelve to eighteen months. Community Housing Office (CHO)

The Community Housing Office (CHO) is the campus center for advice and information on all housing in the Isla Vista, Goleta and Santa Barbara areas. The office maintains an up-to-date rental database, listing vacant and shared housing throughout the community. Students can list themselves as a potential roommate and search for housing that is currently available, on-line at www.housing.ucsb.edu. It's important to remember that rental agreements and leases are legally enforceable contracts; if you have any questions about an agreement or the nature of your commitment to roommates, you may bring the agreement in question to CHO for help in understanding all of its relevant terms and conditions In addition to listings in the community, CHO is a one-stop resource center where staff will assist students by providing advice on renter's rights and responsibilities, security deposits, and leases available on-line at www.housing.ucsb.edu/hchoices/ocrc.htm. CHO produces the Rental Housing Survival Guide, also available on-line at www.housing.ucsb.edu/hchoices/cho-survival-guide.htm, which can answer many rental housing questions. Students are urged to use CHO's videotaping service as a way of establishing the condition of an apartment at the time they move in and move out. For students who find themselves in dispute with their property owner or their roommates, CHO also provides conflict resolution and mediation services. Privately-Owned Housing

Approximately 75 percent of UCSB students reside in privately-owned rental accommodations throughout Isla Vista, Goleta, and Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara Student Housing Co-op

The Co-op is owned and operated by students to offer an alternative to commercial rental properties. Its directors are elected by members, who live in one of the Co-op's four buildings. Single rooms, studios, and two-bedroom apartments are available. Members are encouraged to take an active part in the care and upkeep of the buildings. 6503 Madrid Road, Apt. Accessible Housing

Accessible housing, designed to accommodate students with disabilities, is coordinated through either Housing and Residential Services at 893-5513, or the Office of Apartment Living at 893-4021. For information on accessibility related to privately-owned housing, contact the Community Housing Office; University Center, Room 3151; 893-4371 (TDD is available).

SSACC

S.S.A.C.C. is an acronym for Single Student Apartment Community Council. S.S.A.C.C. serves as the voice of the residents in the University-owned Single Student Apartments. Every resident in Single Student Apartments (Santa Ynez, Westgate and El Dorado) is a member of S.S.A.C.C. The organization funds programs for the community and oversees a budget of about $20,000. The council also informs the Office of Apartment Living of any resident issues or concerns. S.S.A.C.C. meets on a weekly basis, and welcomes all residents of Single Student Apartments.
