Why Are All My Socks Pink?

1: Separate

  • whites with whites

  • darks with darks

  • sheets and towels

  • dry clean only? Take it to the dry cleaner!

2: Load

  • load only medium to full capacity

  • do not overload (clothes get clean by having room to swish around)

  • don't get wool wet

  • don't load any "dry clean only" items

3: Water

  • never wash anything in hot water if you don't want it to shrink!

  • wash whites and lights in warm water

  • wash darks in cold water

  • if in doubt, wash in cold water

4: Soap

  • make sure to use soap!

  • read directions on the package

  • use no more than the suggested amount (more is not better)

  • use specialty soaps for specialty jobs

5: Bleach

  • bleach whites only

  • be careful not to splatter bleach on anything

  • use the suggested amount on the package (too much will turn fabric yellow)

  • if in doubt, do not use bleach!

6: Softener

  • Option A: add liquid softener to rinse cycle (use amount stated on package)

  • Option B: put a fabric softener sheet in the dryer

  • Option C: do both

7: Drying

  • don't put shrinkable items in the dryer (hang them up to drip or air dry)

  • dry items on medium to high temperature

  • if something still has a stain after washing it, do not dry it because the stain will set
