AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL

Amnesty International is part of a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights for all. Across the world, Amnesty International has more than 2.2 million members and subscribers in more than 150 countries and regions and is one of the world's largest and most accomplished human rights organizations today. On our campus, we focus on raising awareness about human rights issues across the world and taking effective action to help end these injustices. At our meetings we focus on a different human rights topic every week, looking at its background information, discussing it in detail, and then writing letters to government officials about the issue. We also hold events like movie screenings, info-sessions and awareness weeks about human rights. Some of our issues include: genocide, child soldiers, women's rights, human trafficking, torture, wrongful imprisonment and the death penalty. We believe that issues of human rights are of fundamental importance. We know that through our actions we can make a difference on a grand scale if we work in international solidarity with other human rights defenders. We also have our own e-mail and website: ucsbamnesty@gmail.com; orgs.sa.ucsb.edu/amnesty.
