Child Care Services
End of Navigation
There are a variety of childcare options available to UCSB students with families.
For a comprehensive listing, pick up the "UCSB Caring for Children" brochure available
at Counseling Services, Family Student Housing, Graduate Division, Office of Student
Life, University Children's Center, Women's Center, and other UCSB offices.
Children's Resource and Referral Program (R & R)
The R & R provides free referrals for all types of child care options: licensed centers
and licensed family child-care homes, in-home and after school care. We offer guidelines
on how to choose quality child care, how to access subsidized child-care services,
a child development lending library, and training in starting your own family child
care business. Referral hours: Mon-Fri, 8am-12pm, 1-3pm, 1124 Castillo St., Santa
Barbara; 962-8988. For information on how to become a licensed provider, attend
a monthly informational meeting or call 963-4592.
Emergency Locator Service
For students who are parents, the Office of Student Life provides an Emergency Locator
Service for their children. Any UCSB student who has a child enrolled in a local
school or childcare program may list the Office of Student Life as an alternate
emergency contact (after another responsible person, if possible). In an emergency
during business hours (Mon-Fri, 9am-12noon, 1-5pm), the Office of Student Life will
accept calls and use the student's class schedule (to which they have regular access)
as a way to find a student-parent in class. SRB, second floor; 893-4569.
Isla Vista Children's Center
The Children's Center offers child care to families with children from 3 months
to entrance to kindergarten. Hours are from 6:45am-5:45pm. There is subsidized enrollment
and private pay enrollment. Children are offered developmentally appropriate placement
and a nurturing environment. State Preschool is also offered for those who qualify
for a 3 1/2 hour program. Call 968-0488 for more information.

programs in conjunction with Isla Vista School for children ages six to twelve on-site
at the Isla Vista School, 6072 El Colegio, Isla Vista; 968-1624.
UCSB After School Program
I wish I had known how important it is to network with the many other re-entry/
non-traditional students and their families at UCSB.
From September through June, the UCSB After School Program offers care for children
grades K through 8. The Program operates from UCSB's Robertson Gymnasium weekdays
from 1-6pm. Transportation from your child's school to UCSB is provided, as well
as daily nutritious snacks. Activities include, but are not limited to, arts and
crafts, homework assistance, sports, swim lessons, video arts, etc. Extended care
is offered on holidays, minimum days, Parent/Teacher conference weeks, and Teacher-In-Service
days, as well as Winter and Spring Recess programs. Call for fee information. UCSB
Rob Gym; 893-8487.
